Marriage Licenses
Marriage is the legally recongized union of 2 eligible people regardless of gender. See State RSA 457 for more information.
If you are an in state or out-of-state resident getting married in New Hampshire, you can go to any NH
city or town clerk's office to apply. There is no waiting period after filing and the license is valid for 90
days. The State of New Hampshire does not require any blood tests.
Necessary Documentation & Information:
You must show a picture ID and proof of age (driver's license is sufficient)
If married before, you must present a
Certified copy of the divorce decree or Dissolution
Certified copy of annulment or
Certified copy of death certificate
The bride and groom both need to provide the following information:
Full names and State of birth
Address
Social Security Number (optional)
Race (optional)
Ancestry (optional)
Years of education (optional)
Date of Birth
Father's full name and State of birth
Mother's full name (Maiden) and State of birth
Fees: The cost of a marriage license is $45.00 payable at the time you apply for the license.
Once the officiant has filed the license with this office after the ceremony, certified copies of the marriage
certificate are available for $12.00 for the first one and $8.00 for subsequent copies at the same time. These
certificates are not automatically generated. After the marriage ceremony is performed the officiant will return the certifacte to the town clerk of issuance. You may then contact any town/city in New Hampshire to obtain a certified copy of the marriage certificate.
