Jones Pond

State Water Division - Dam Bureau

In accordance with RSA 483:13, the NHDES Dam Bureau is notifying the Town of New Durham and the NHDES Dam Safety and Inspection Section of the Dam Bureau that starting on November 2, 2023 the NHDES Dam Bureau intends on removing the flashboards at Jones Pond Dam until the recommendations of a future engineering evaluation can be implemented.  The removal of the flashboards and the engineering evaluation are being done following the recommendations in the 2021 Inspection Noticed received from the NHDES Dam Safety and Inspection Section (see attached).  The engineering evaluation is already in process and will be ongoing into the coming years.  The removal of the flashboards will likely result in the lowering of Jones Pond Dam by about 2 feet, however, during a high-water event in July the flashboards tripped, and as a result the pond is already down by about 2 feet.

Corey Clark, Chief Engineering & Construction Engineer attended the Selectboard Meeting of 10/24/23 and stated an evaluation will be ongoing with the scope of work to be determined in 2024.
